BIO
Chantal Celine is a Canadian singer/songwriter and indie producer based in Gatineau, Québec. She pairs her whimsical and heartfelt lyrics with layers of reverberant background vocals, and tailors each instrumental to compliment the needs of the song. Chantal loves to combine acoustic and electric elements to accompany the story of her lyrics, and often pairs a beautifully rich piano with a driving synth bassline or an indie drum kit, or processes acoustic instruments in a way that gives them more electronic texture. Chantal writes, records, and produces all of her music, making each song authentically her.
Chantal is inspired by life and love, and loves intentional and clever lyrics that paint a picture. She draws from her real life experiences and feelings, and often uses one small thought or feeling to create a whole world where her songs exist. She uses music to untangle emotion, and puts it into a tangible form, creating a snapshot in time that she can step back into.
Chantal has been writing songs for nearly 15 years, and won second place in her first songwriting contest at 11 years old. She received her bachelor of music with honours in Integrated Musical Arts in 2021, and has since released 5 singles and 3 EPs. This November, she will release her Christmas EP, “Immanuel” - a small collection of cozy and traditional holiday tunes infused with her unique creative style.
Immanuel// EP
“Immanuel” is a 4-track project that features fresh takes on familiar and beloved Christmas hymns. Chantal has taken the songs that she’s grown up singing every year, and completely re-imagined them in her own style. The arrangements and tone of each song are varied; some create vocal-heavy and warm textures while others, such as ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’, are ear-catching takes on classic hymnal melodies and song structures. The EP as a whole features smooth vocals, endearing and warm instrumentation, and Chantal’s classic marriage of electronic and acoustic elements.
sad, but not really // EP
“sad, but not really” is a small collection of sad(ish) songs, each with a unique silver lining. It features songs about love - pulling back the curtain to reveal the emotions and inner workings of relationships, and songs about life - feeling lost and directionless while struggling to find a sense of identity and purpose.
The 6-track EP features a handful of stripped-back and raw songs such as “End Of The Night”, “Doubt Is My Best Friend", and “To Grow Again”. It also contains more driving and dynamic songs like “Peppermint & Jasmine” and “Mirage” - an alt/indie pop bop about comfortable complacency. “sad, but not really” creates a world where the heartfelt intimacy of rich lyrics, piano, acoustic guitar, and stacked background vocals are perfectly paired with punchy basslines, textured synths, and lofi/indie drum kits.
"Each note feels like it was carefully plucked from her Canadian roots and nurtured in Gatineau’s hushed winter air. What truly sets this EP apart is how Chantal Celine does it all—her spirit weaves itself throughout her recordings as she writes, plays, and produces every delicate layer herself. It seems each song is a thread spun directly from her soul." -Chris the Blogger for MusicArenagh
